DATA PROTECTION / DATENSCHUTZ
PRIVACY
What GameHub stores, why, for how long — and how to have it deleted. This page is the notice; the code that implements it is in the repository.
1. Who is responsible (controller)
GameHub is a portfolio project operated by the repository owner.
For any question about this notice, or to exercise a right in
Article 15–22 GDPR, use the contact address given in the
repository's README.md. There is no tracking,
no profiling and no marketing here, so no data protection
officer is required.
2. What is stored, and why
| Data | Where | Purpose (legal basis) | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | Cognito user pool | Sign-in — you must be able to authenticate as yourself (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, performance of the service) | Until you delete your account |
Cognito identifier (sub) |
Cognito + database | Links a score to an account without using your email address (Art. 6(1)(b)) | Until you delete your account |
| Personal best per game | GameHub database | The feature itself: your high score is remembered (Art. 6(1)(b)) | Until you delete your account |
| Request logs (IP, URL, status, timing) | CloudWatch Logs | Security and availability — detecting abuse and running the alarms that keep the service up (Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest) | 7 days, then deleted automatically |
Deliberately not stored: no passwords in the
database (Cognito holds a salted hash, we never see it), no
advertising identifiers, no behavioural profiles, no third-party
analytics, no cookies other than the sign-in session your browser
keeps in localStorage. Deleting that storage value
signs you out.
3. Who else sees the data (processors)
The service runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which processes the
data on our behalf under the AWS Data Processing Addendum; the
region is eu-central-1 (Frankfurt), inside the EU.
The web fonts in this project are self-hosted, so no font, CDN or
analytics provider ever receives a request from your browser.
4. Your rights
- Access / data portability (Art. 15, 20): your complete stored data is on the account page — email, identifier and every personal best, in a form you can copy out.
- Erasure (Art. 17): the same page deletes your account. This removes the Cognito identity (the email) and every score in one action, immediately, without an email to support.
- Rectification (Art. 16): change your email by creating a new account and deleting the old one.
- Objection (Art. 21): the only processing based on legitimate interest is request logging, which is deleted within 7 days and cannot be switched off per user without switching off security monitoring for everyone.
- Complaint (Art. 77): you may complain to your local supervisory authority — in Germany, the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz of your federal state.
5. Security measures
Data travels over HTTPS only. Sign-in tokens are verified server-side against the Cognito signing keys; the database is not reachable from the internet; administration happens over AWS Systems Manager with no SSH port open; the EC2 host has no AWS access keys on disk and uses short-lived instance credentials. Third-party JavaScript is not loaded on these pages at all.
1. Verantwortlicher
